Dr Jones with the Socceroos

The Football Australia Perform+ was developed by Dr Mark Jones and his

Football Australia medical team in 2020 as the primary injury prevention

program for football in Australia.

This involved extensive collaboration between Dr Mark Jones and Football

Australia physiotherapists, injury researchers, coaches, and sports

scientists.

The program is a key component of Football Australia's Player Availability

Model.

The Football Australia Perform+ is an updated version of the 11+ program

with more flexibility for coaches in delivering the components of the

program, and new content targeting hip and groin injury prevention.

It can be easily delivered by coaches at all levels of football.

Importantly, the content in the Football Australia Perform+ is underpinned

by extensive research showing that the program is effective in reducing

injury incidence for the most common injuries in football by ~40%, is an

effective warmup, and improves physical performance.

The program targets players from the age of 10 to 59 years.

The Football Australia Fundamentals+ program is an adapted version of

the 11+ Kids program which has been shown to reduce injuries in youth

football by 50%, severe injuries by 74%, the financial cost associated

with youth injuries by 51%, and improves physical performance in

balance, jump performance, and agility.

The program includes fundamental movement skills and coordination

drills which are designed to be fun and engaging for children from 5 to

10 years of age.

The Football Australia Perform+ is divided into 2 main components: Warm Up and Performance. The Warm-Up component will now only take 8-10 minutes to deliver while the Performance exercises can be delivered throughout training, at the end of the training session or at home. You can Download the Perform+ exercise sheet HERE.

Importantly, the Football Australia Perform+ should be performed a minimum of 2x/week with 3x/week ideal. The new program design also allows for coaches to prescribe the Performance section exercises as an additional home exercise program and only take 10 minutes to complete.

Dr Mark Jones talks further about Perform+ Model in this video.
